Class Syllabus:
Junior English (III-H) - The reading element of this course is focused on American Literature. It will be presented in chronological order from early Puritans through modern literature. TAKS Exit level ELA exams occur at this grade level. Extensive practice and review of this test will help students to be successful. This is a fast pace course that requires students to be self-motivated and organized.

Senior English (IV) - The reading element of this course is focused on British Literature. It will be presented in chronological order from the earliest forms of written English through modern works. The English language has changed greatly through history, so students may find the earliest readings very difficult. There are translations available on the internet, and in-class help will be provided. Students who did not pass the Exit level TAKS exam their Junior year will be provided with extra help in this area. There are several chances for Seniors to re-take this test. The first opportunity is in October!

Class Rules and Expectations:
The rules for my class are very simple...be polite! If you are doing something that is not polite, please stop. By the Junior and Senior year of High School ALL students know what behavior is appropriate.
Most assignments will be flexible on the due date, within reason. However, there will be essay projects that have a firm due date. I do NOT accept LATE WORK under any circumstances. Work that has a firm due date will be clearly labeled, and students will be well aware. There will be a "due date" and a "dead date." The due date is when I want the work turned in, and the dead date (the following day) is the last time I will accept the work...no exceptions!! This rule is not to punish students, but to teach them to be responsible and manage their time. I ask that parents please support me on this. IF it is IMPOSSIBLE for a student to get his/her work to me by the dead date, please call the school and I will come and get the work from the student's home or workplace.
