March Teachers of the Month

Mrs. Morrell is a 6th Social Studies  and Reading teacher at Lee.  She has been teaching 9 yrs, all of them at Lee.  She enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, riding 4-wheelers, and whatever else her two sons want to do, gardening, reading, watching movies, playing board games, and shopping with “the girls”.  She has 2 boys, Ethan -5, and Ty-3.  She and her husband Brad have been married for 9 years.  Mrs. Morrell graduated from Gainesville High School, Cooke County College (NCTC), and graduated Magna Cum Laude from TWU with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

 

Mrs. Stark teaches 6th grade Science at Lee.  She has been teaching 13 yrs. (7yrs in 2nd gr. And 6 yrs. In 6th).  She loves to travel, and camp (but doesn’t “rough it”).  Her goal is to visit all the US National Parks.  She loves to read mystery novels, and spend lots of time with her  grandchildren.  She has 2 daughters, Lauren-28. and Abbey-20.  She also has 2 granddaughters, Melaina-3 and Colbie Cate-3months.  She and her husband Dave have been married for 32 years.  They are both GHS graduates-1975, Cooke County college attendees-1977, and Univ.of Tx. Grads-1979.  However, her daughters are both Texas Tech girls.  She reminds them that it’s hers and Dave’s UT degrees that pay for their Tech degrees.


Mrs. Shaver teaches 6th grade  Reading/Language Arts.  She has 11 years experience in public school and 2 ½ teaching in private school in Illinois.  Her hobbies include her grandchildren, quilting, reading, and traveling, she especially loves cruises.  She and her husband Richard have been married 42 yrs.
(which would make her a baby when she married). 
They have 3 children, Christie and Cindy (deceased)
and Casey-34.  She has 3 grandsons, Corbin-7,
Carson-5, and Cannon-2.  Mrs. Shaver was Chief of the Woodbine Ladies Fire Dept.  She decided at 38 yrs. Of age that she wanted to be a teacher when she grew up (although she’s not quite grown up yet) and started college.  She graduated from Cooke County College (NCTC) in 1989 and TWU in 1992.  She is certified to teach 1-12 with a Social Studies composite as well as  English.  The best is yet to come for Mrs. Shaver because this is her last few months to teach.  She is retiring at the end of this school year.  Congratulations to her, she will be missed.

 

Ms. Stockebrand teaches 5th grade Resource Reading/Language Arts.  She has been teaching 25 years.  She enjoys reading, quilting, teaching, classic movies, garage sales, traveling and anything else that catches her fancy.  She has 1 daughter and 2 stepsons, Brylie-25, Justin-30, and Ryan-28.  She has 5 grandchildren, 3 boys and 2 girls.  Ms. Stockebrand likes museums, bookstores, fabric stores,  historical markers, teapots, fans, and cooking.  She dislikes really hot weather, sports on TV, meetings with no purpose, rap music, and intolerance.

Math & Science Team Compete at State

The state of Texas will get another opportunity  to recognize the academic excellence of the Gainesville Junior High and Lee Intermediate Math/Science Team.  The team, comprised of 6th and 7th grade students, left Thursday to travel to San Antonio for the state competition.  They will be competing in the areas of Number Sense, Calculator, Math, and Science.  They will be competing with other students from across the state.  Coaches for the team include Barbara Morgan, Donna Patterson, Christy Dillard, and Jacque Bezner.  “We are excited about returning to State this year”, says Morgan, “we have done well in the past and expect to do so again”.  GOOD LUCK TEAM!!!

February Teachers of the Month

Mrs. Schad teaches 6th grade Math at Lee.  She has been teaching for 28 years.  Her hobbies include reading, traveling, history, people, flying, and sometimes just being alone.  She has 2 sons, Jason-34 and Paul-21, and so far, she has no grandchildren.  Mrs. Schad graduated from UNT.  She has been married to Tom for 27 years.  She worked with exchange students for several years and has had 13 students from other countries live with her family through the years.  She is active with the Medal of Honor Host City program, loves doing things with friends, and renewing old friendships.

Mrs. Patterson is a 6th gr. CMC/Social Studies teacher at Lee.  She has also taught Math and Science.  She has been married to David for 32 years and they have 2 children, Kesley-27, and Brooke Sherrer-24.  She also has 2 dogs and 4 barn kitties. (Diesel, Daphnie, Caddie, Lincoln, Mercedes, and Chevy).  Mrs. Patterson graduated Summa Cum Laude from TWU with a Bachelors degree in Education with a specialization in Math.   She has been teaching for 14 years.  Before becoming a teacher, she work at First State Bank and Weber  Aircraft.  She enjoys dancing, decorating, sunny days, and Pink Floyd music.  She loves working at Lee because her co-workers are also her friends.


Miss Proffitt teaches 5th grade Reading/US History at Lee.  She has been teaching for 29 years.   She enjoys scrapbooking, lighthouses, and yard work.  She has 2 nephews, Patrick-29, Jonathan-22, and one niece, Kimberly-27.  She also has
1 great-nephew, Aidan-4.  Miss Proffitt says that, like the aunts in “Skylark” by Patricia MacLachlan, she’s an “unclaimed treasure” or more bluntly put, an old maid school teacher;  but, that has enabled her to devote her life to teaching and to her mother.

Mrs. Parker is a 5th grade Math and Social Studies teacher at Lee.  She has been teaching 28 years in GISD.  She loves to read, keep up with her grandkids and take trips with her sisters.  Mrs. Parker is a twin and loves to spend time with her twin sister, who lives in Weatherford.  She has 2 sons,  Bill and Brad, and 4 step children, Tammy, Jeff, Jenny, and Misty.  She has 3 grandchildren and 13 step grandchildren-16 in all!  She also has 2 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Parker attends Central Baptist Church in Whitesboro where she is a backup teacher for the beginner class.  She is married to Leon and they spend many of their weekends at the farm in Woodbine.  She says it’s a great place to turn the grandkids loose to ride 4-wheelers, fish, and picnic.


TAKS Pep Rally

Lee Intermediate 5th grade students attended a TAKS pep rally Tues. afternoon before Wednesday’s test.  They were cheered on by the GHS cheerleaders and mascot as welll as John Earle, former NFL player, who encouraged the students to do their best and make their dreams come true by working hard now.  Students took the Reading portion of the TAKS test on Wednesday.

January Teachers of the Month

Tiffany Nichols teaches 6 th gr. Science at Lee. She has been teaching for 5 years. Her hobbies include traveling, shopping, crafting and cooking. She also makes “Tiffy Towels”, cute towel body wraps, on the side. She and her husband of 3 ½ years, Zach, have 2 dogs, Boomer and Roxi. Mrs. Nichols graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2002 with a degree in communication. She obtained her teacher certification soon after that and joined the Lee team.

Kristi Moore is the band director at Lee. She has a total of 9 yrs. Teaching experience. Her hobbies include crafts, home improvement, and new experiences. Mrs. Moore grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma, where she was a Duncan Demon. She earned a Bachelors degree in Music Education and minored in English Composition at Oklahoma City University. She taught one year in OKC, two at Prosper and then joined us here at Lee. She says she loves it here because the staff is genuine and the students are great. Mrs. Moore also travels to the High School to help lead their band also.


Leslie Nichols teaches ESL at Lee. She has 21 years teaching experience. Her hobbies include Yoga, reading, going to movies, and she loves music and concerts. She has 2 children, Charlie-33, and Brent-27. Mrs. Nichols is an animal lover and has 3 very important “people” who live her. Coco, and Callie, her dogs and Cinco, her cat. She has been married to her husband Ray for 20 years, he’s also pretty important to her.

Barbara Morgan teaches 6 th grade Math at Lee. She has 13 yrs. Teaching experience. She loves to read in her spare time. She has 2 children Margaret-25 and Michael-22. She also has a granddog named Tipper. She has been married for 28 yrs. To her husband, Randy.

December Teachers of the Month

Ms. Meece teaches 5th grade Science.  She has been teaching 23 years, but this is her first year at Lee.  She loves to travel, snow ski, ride horses, and play with her grandchildren.  She has 2 sons, Mark-33, and Mike -29.  Her grand children are Luke-7, Mya-5, Aidan-2, and another due August.  Mrs. Meece says she lives a simple life but she has the had the experience of teaching 2 summers in Mexico.  She taught English to all ages. 

Mrs. Martin also teaches 5th grade Science at Lee.  She has 20 years of teaching experience.  She loves quilt designing, reading, camping, bird watching, and is a member of the Yellowstone Association.  She has 4 children.  Scott-37, Dennis-35, Eric-32, and Danny-26.  She also has 2 grandchildren, Sailor-6, and Violet-2 mos.  She and her husband Gary have been married 39 years and are members of Temple Baptist Church.


Mrs. McHorse teaches 6th grade Reading.  She has been teaching for 13 years.  She has 3 children, Chad, Jennifer, and Emily and 7 grandchildren, Alisa, Trey, Matthew, Alexus, Zach, Nick, and Maddie.  She enjoys walking, reading, writing, and loves to travel.  She attended schools in Gainesville, Nex Mexico and Oklahoma.  She graduated from TWU with a BA in English.  She is married to Mike, who is the president of the Medal of Honor Host City Program Board, on which she also serves.  She is a member of Pi Zeta sorority and attends First United Methodist Church.

 

Mr. Molsbee is a 5th grade Math and Social Studies teacher.  He has been teaching for 11 years.  He loves to golf, camp, hike, and being the best husband, dad and geepop he can be.  He has 8 children, Josh-28, Ryan-26, Haly-23, Keli-21, Deah-15, Ali-10, Bree-8, and Asher-5.  He and his wife, Twyla have also fostered over 150 children.  He has 1 grandchild, Taylor-8 mos.  His son Josh is married to Sheena who will graduate from law school in May.  Ryan is a DPS Trooper and is married to Jana who is a caseworker.  Josh, Hayly, and Keli are either teachers, or working towards that.  Twyla is a casework for Casa helping foster children.


6th Graders Construct a Rainforest
6th grade Social Studies students in Mrs. Holt’s and Mrs. Morrell’s classes learn about the rainforest.  The students constructed a rainforest and then had to identify products we use that come from the region.  They wrote ads to promote these products in hopes of saving the rainforest.

November Teachers of the Month

Ms. Jones is the P.E. teacher at Lee Intermediate.  She has been teaching for 15 yrs.  She enjoys quilting, reading, and walking.  Ms. Jones has 2 children, Traci and Kenny and one grandson Jonathan who is 17.  She has a son in law named Rick and 3 step grandchildren, Katherine-16, Amanda-14, and Ricky-13.

Mrs. Hunt is a 5th grade Math and Social Studies teacher at Lee Intermediate.  She has been teaching for 21 years.  She enjoys reading, gardening, and playing with her three grandchildren.  Mrs. Hunt and her husband, Pat, have been married for 38 years.  They have 2 children, Melissa-34 and Marcy-32.  They also have three granddaughters, Alexis-11, Sydney-4,
and Mia-2.

Mrs. Martin teaches music at Lee Intermediate.  She has been teaching for 23 years.  She enjoys meditation and is certified to teach Reiki.  She also enjoys yoga, pliates, cooking, reading, writiting, and traveling.   She loves to laugh and loves comedies and stand-up comedians (she could be one herself, we think).  She has 4 children, Olivia-19, John and Jillian-16, and Mitchell-14.  She has three dogs named George, Paul, and Dudley.  She graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. where she met her husband John.  They have been married 23 years.  Mrs. Martin grew up in Kansas City, Mo. And moved to Texas in 1985.  She taught for 11 years in Lewisville before moving to Gainesville.  She has 2 brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Jay is currently  the teacher in the TAKS Acceleration lab/CMC room but she also works with students in the regular classroom who need accommodations.  She has 23 years of teaching experience.  She likes to shop, enjoys Nascar racing, fishing, and hunting.  She has been married to her husband of 27 yrs, Emmett.  Mrs. Jay graduated from UNT in 1979.  She has 1 brother.  She and her husband lived in St.Thomas, Virgin Islands for 5 ½ years.

VISTO Holiday Food Drive

Students at Lee Intermediate love a challenge.  As a reward for bringing a goal of 3,000 lbs. of food, students would get to throw pies at their favorite (or least favorite) teacher or principal.  Students brought a total of 3374 lbs. of food for the VISTO Holiday Food Drive.  Mr. Wells and Mr. Watson seemed to take the brunt of the pie-ing, however, no one was spared.


NED: Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best

The NED Show came to Lee Intermediate Friday.  NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best.  Jeff, yo-yo pro, showed students tricks and told stories about never giving up, encouraging others, and doing their best at everything they do.

Mr. Watson Bleedin' Orange

Jim Watson, Lee’s new assistant principal, loses a bet and has to wear regalia of his “favorite” team.  He doesn’t look very happy.  Welcome to Lee Intermediate, Mr. Watson!

Math & Science Team Compete

Lee Intermediate 6th grade Math and Science Team traveled to Denton Saturday to compete in their first meet this year.  They are pictured here with their leader, Mrs. Barbara Morgan, and all their awards. Also assisting with the team but not pictured is Mrs. Donna Patterson.  Congratulations!


Earle Twins Visit with Students

John and Guy Earle, twins, and former NFL players, visited Lee Intermediate students on Friday, to talk with the students about never giving up on dreams.  They encouraged students to believe in themselves, make good choices, and to overcome adversity and obstacles in life.


October Teachers of the Month

Mrs.Henry teaches 5th grade Science.  She has been teaching for 3 years.  She enjoys hiking, camping, reading, riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle, dancing, fossil hunting, and rock collecting.  She loves Science!!  She and her husband have 1 dog named Max but no “granddogs”.  She is from Austin Tx. And graduated from TWU.

Mrs. Hines teaches 5th grade Reading and Language.  She has been teaching for 15 years.  She and her husband Danny have been married for 33 years and have 2 children, Cory-32, and Krystle-25.  She also has 3 grandchildren, Mackenzie-5,  Caleb-2 ½, and Kenna 18 mos.  Her favorite thing is spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Mrs. Hines graduated from Callisburg High School, and TWU.


Mrs. Holt is a 6th grade Social Studies teacher at Lee Intermediate.  She has been teaching for 5 years.  Her hobbies include traveling, horseback riding, fishing, and football.  She and her husband, Don, have two children, Meagan-12, and Reece-8.  Mrs. Holt’s husband is a helicopter pilot.  She was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska and is a United States Army Veteran.

Mrs.  Godi is a 5th and 6th grade Math teacher.  She has been teaching 23 years.  Mrs. Godi and her husband, John, have 3 children, Seth-20, Cole-19, and Victoria-17.   She likes to scrapbook, camp, collect rocks, fossils, and shells, and loves to be outdoors.  She is a member of  First Baptist Church.  She was born in Gainesville and attended JM LIindsay school, GJHS, GHS, Cooke County College and TWU. Mrs. Godi says she loves teaching at Lee!!


Red Ribbon Week

In celebration of Red Ribbon Week, the national campaign against drug use, students and faculty at Lee Intermediate participated in “Hats off to being drug free” and “Wake up to a drug free life” for which they wore hats and pajamas. 

Lee Intermediate School is sponsoring a fundraiser across the district for Krista Brewer, Lee 5th grade student.  Krista has been fighting cancer for many years now and the fundraiser is to help her family with medical expenses.  Students can wear baseball caps on Fridays for a cost of  50 cents, teachers can wear jeans on any day for $1, and anytime anyone wears pink, Krista’s favorite color, they can donate any amount they wish.  The fundraiser will run until the students get out for Christmas Holiday.

Fire Safety Week

Firefighters from the Gainesville Fire Department came to Lee Intermediate School to teach students about fire safety and prevention.  “Firehouse Idol” was a hit with the students and staff as well.

Ms. Bond is a 5th grade Math and Language teacher who has teaching for 17 years.  She likes walking, reading, watching her kids’ games, and scrapbooking.  She has 2 children, Madyson-15 and Landon-11.  She also has 3 dogs, Dudley, Romeo, and Chloe. Mrs.  Brule teaches 5th grade TAKS acceleration classes and CMC.  This is her 30th year as a teacher.  She enjoys working in her yard, gardening, reading, and traveling.  She has 1 son, Dustin-26, and 1 grandchild, Jizelle-6.  She and her husband Al are members of First Baptist Church.

Ms. Alsup teaches 6th grade Language and has 21 years of teaching experience.  She likes to collect Victorian rose plates, and paper weights.  She also enjoys reading novels and reading about health.  She has 2 children, Angie-35 who is also a teacher in Denton, and Alan-30 who writes flight manuals for Gulfstream Jet in Dallas.  Ms. Alsup loves spending time with and cooking for her family. Mr. Andrews is a 6th grade Reading and Language teacher.  He has been teaching for 26 years.  He likes to play golf, fly-fish, spend time with his family, and cheer for Oklahoma State University.  He has 3 children-Nathan-23, Kevin-19, and Lindsey-17.  Mr. Andrews says he loves working at Lee because the faculty and staff are really great!!

Raising the Flag

Ken McColly and Clay Yandell from the VFW Post 1922 Color Guard, show Lee Intermediate students the basics of flag etiquette.  Students learned the correct way of raising and lowering the flag, how to properly fold the flag and other “rules” associated with flag duty.  These 6th grade students will be responsible for the flags at Lee Intermediate for the 1st semester.
