GISD Meets State Accountability Standard

On Monday, August 15, The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the 2016 state accountability ratings.  Districts and campuses received one of three ratings under the accountability system:  Met Standard, Met Alternative Standard, or Improvement Required. 

GISD is able to report that each campus within the district has achieved Met Standard, the highest rating schools can earn on the state’s accountability system, and the district as a whole exceeded targets in all four indexes.  This year’s requirements increased at each student grade level and in each subject area. Gainesville Independent School District will continue to strive for student excellence to consistently increase index scores at every campus.  Congratulations to the students, teachers, and parents on a successful year at GISD.

The 2016 ratings are based on a system that uses a range of indicators to provide greater detail about the performance of a district and individual campuses throughout the state.  These indexes include: 

1. Student achievement: provides a snapshot of performance across all subjects.

2. Student progress: measures year-to-year student progress by subject and student group. 

3. Closing performance gaps: emphasizes the academic achievement of economically disadvantage students and the lowest performing racial/ethnic student groups. 

4. Postsecondary readiness: emphasizes the importance of earning a high school diploma that provides students with the foundation necessary for success in college, the workforce, job training programs or the military.

Campuses that receive an accountability rating of Met Standard are also eligible for distinction designations, which are awarded to campuses based on achievement on performance indicators compared to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size and student demographic.  Distinction designations will be released publicly by September 16.
