Ms. Kristal Young

Welcome to my webpage!  I am Kristal Young, an  eighth--year teacher at Gainesville High School.  I am starting my 30th year in education.  I have taught a variety of classes and fields in Louisiana and Arkansas before moving to Texas in 2015. I started my teaching career at the junior high level, teaching science to 7th and 8th graders.  While I worked on my Master's degree, I changed directions and began teaching special education.  In 1999, I moved to Arkansas where I taught special eduction at the elementary level.  I began teaching Family and Consumer Science in 2003 at Monticello Middle School in Arkansas where I developed a passion for the project based learning in my content area.  In addition to the academic excellence, FCCLA became a showcase of our chapter's projects.  My role as an adviser has won numerous awards on the national level.  My students have also qualified for national competitions for the last ten years.  The Monticello Middle School Chapter has also been selected as national winners for five different projects. This year will focus on incorporating FCCLA activities into the culinary arts classroom at Gainesville High School where students will have the opportunity to compete for local, regional, state, and national awards by completing a variety of FCCLA National Programs.  Students in the Intro to Culinary Arts class will earn their Texas Food Handler's Certification from ServSafe.  ServSafe Manager's Certification and The American Culinary Federation Certified Fundamental Cook Certification will be offered to the double blocked classes.  All certifications offered by the culinary department will improve employment opportunities.

On a personal level, I have two wonderful sons.  I believe in the traditional Christian values that my parents instilled in me as a young child.  My family is the center of my activities.  I enjoy anything that deals with the outdoors and nature---hunting and fishing, riding horses, showing livestock, working on the farm........ In my spare time, I also like to read, cook/try new recipes, and paint/craft.  I also have a mini-Aussie named Bandit.
