I grew up in the Texas Panhandle and moved to Gainesville in 2014 with my husband and two younger children. My youngest son, Nathaniel, graduated Gainesville High in 2016 and a Marine Reserves. My daughter, Katrina, graduated Gainesville as Salutatorian in 2018. She is in the Army Reserves and attending UNT majoring in Biology. I have been blessed with a total of 5 children and 10 grandchildren, who live in Texas and Missouri.
I have a Bachelor's in Business Adminiistration from West Texas A&M University and a Master's in Special Education, Instructinal Specialist from Arkansas State University. Since beginning my teaching career in 2003, I have taught secondary and college business, ESL, and the last five years Special Education.
This last three years of teaching have been the most challenging, but rewarding in the Special Education (skills for life) classroom. The students work very hard in academic and social skills. In addition to academics, students learn to prepare food items, plant and maintain gardens, work within the community on job skills, housekeeping, and many other skills. In the spring, I enjoying coaching Special Olympics and encourage families to become involved with their children. At the end of the year, we join the high school for a couple of field trips that are wonderful experiences. The Park Rangers sponsor a fishing day and cookout. The Rangers received additional donations and provide the students wth a fishing gear. We also visit the Police Station and Fire Department. The tour includes getting to experience the vehicles, operate a firehose, watching videos and eating pizza at the station.
I'm excited about our jouney each year as we grow together and encounter new experience.
