I am so excited to begin my 34th year of teaching!
I am a proud 1982 graduate of Gainesville High School. I went on to study at what was then Cooke County College and then transferred to Texas Woman's University where I graduated in 1986.
I began my teaching career at Rad Ware Elementary in the Callisburg school district. I moved to the Gainesville school district in 1991 where I taught at Franklin Elementary. I moved to Edison in 1997 when we combined all of our elementary schools. I taught first grade for 23 year and first grade Title I reading for two years. 7 years years ago I had the opportunity to move to Chalmers Elementary where I taught second grade for 4 years. This is my fourth year as a fourth grade teacher. I love teaching children how to read. It is the most rewarding experience to see the excitement in children as they learn.
I am married to Jeff Burkhart and between us we have six children. Our oldest son Josh is a Sergeant in the United States Airforce. Our oldest daughter Katy is married to Jason Pyle, and she is also a graduate of TWU. She teaches kindergarten at Edison Elementary. She has two daughters, Molly Kate, who will turn 10 in March, and Cora Grace who is 4! Molly Kate is in third grade at Chalmers. "Big" Jake lives in Austin with his wife Casey. Kara graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. She teaches pre-K at Edison. She is married to Ryan Coberley. They live in Whitesboro. They have a daughter Eleanor who was one in April. Karly also graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and is a 4th grad math and science teacher with the Birdville ISD. She will be marrying Pablo De Santiago Jr. in December! "Little" Jake is a junior at Texas A&M at Commerce. He is studying music education and hopes to become a band director when he graduates. I am proud to say that all of my children attended GISD!
I attend First Baptist Church where I play the organ. My favorite color is pink, and I love to plant flowers, work in my yard, and spend time with my family!
I am so blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of your child's life.
