Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Bonnie Rucker. This is my 18th year teaching and my 14th year teaching 1st grade at Edison Elementary. I also have taught 3-year-old and 4-year-old children at Head Start for GISD. This is my third year to teach a dual-language class. I teach ELAR and 2 groups of Math to a mixed group of english and spanish speakers. It's a fun challenge for me as a teacher.
I have lived in this area for most of my life and attended elementary and middle school at Callisburg ISD. Then, I graduated High School from Whitesboro ISD. I attended Oklahoma Baptist University my freshman year in college and transferred to Texas Woman's University. I graduated from TWU in 2002 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. I also have a supplemental ESL certification.
I am the daughter of a preacher and a teacher. Therefore, the majority of my life has been spent in school or in church. My husband and I live in Gainesville and have been married for 18 years. We have three great kids that we were blessed to adopt in 2014. Shawn is 10 and in 5th grade at Lee. Makenzie is 7 and is in 2nd grade at Chalmers. Our youngest is Jesse. He is 6 and is in 1st grade with me here at Edison. We are a busy group that loves going to school.
I enjoy every aspect of teaching. I believe that every child can learn and should have the opportunity to learn. I also feel that every child deserves to be treated with respect and love. Therefore, I also expect respect and love in return. In our classroom we strive to have Edison PRIDE in all situations. I have high expectations for all my students and believe that we can make tremendous progress through new experiences. I am excited to see what new experiences we will have together this year!
