• bond cancelled

At the August 24, 2020 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board voted unanimously to cancel the November 3rd election due to the current state of the economy. However, the information gathered from the bond planning process, including the countless hours invested in by the facilities steering committee, will be utilized when the Board determines it is economically responsible to bring the Bond issue back to a public vote.

On February 6, 2020 at a special-called meeting, the GISD Board of Trustees approved and called an Order of Election for a May 2, 2020 Bond Election in the amount of $35,100,000.

Prior to making the final decision, the Board reviewed all of the information as well as options that were developed by the Facilities Steering Committee.

The proposal will be as follows:

Expansion of Chalmers campus - $12,781,954
    Expansion of Lee campus - $ 13,013,400
    Capital Improvements - $9,263,176

The expansion of the Lee and Chalmers campuses would decommission Edison Elementary from student use.

As a result of Governor Abbott's May 18 proclamation, at the Board of Trustees meeting on March 23, the Board voted to postpone the May election until November 3 due to the current COVID-19 crisis.  The May election consisted of the $35.1 bond proposal as well as the Board of Trustees election.
