Visual Arts
Welcome to GISD Visual Arts
The Visual Arts Department of GISD has a wide range of talent and diversity. We strive to celebrate the many cultures and backgrounds that our students bring to our program.
Our talented student artists' work will be displayed throughout our community and surrounding areas.
Our hope is that you will enjoy seeing their hard work as they progress through the FIne Arts Program on each campus.

GHS had an exceptional showing at this year’s VASE UIL Art Competition! We had 23 students with 41 art pieces compete. Out of those 41 pieces, one qualified for State, two were finalists, 37 received a gold medal award and four received a silver medal award. Not only do they create exceptional art but there is a writing portion and a formal interview process as well. Congratulations to Mrs Perkins and all of the competing GHS art students!
Art contest winners for the 9th annual GISD Christmas card design contest have been announced. GHS 9th grade student Amiah Padron won first place overall and her art was used to create the cover of the card. GJH 8th grader Isabel Bentley placed second and her art is on the inside cover. Additional campus winning art designs displayed on the back of the card were created by Lyndsie Tan-to (12th), Melanie Calderon (6th), Marcella Garner (4th) and Jaxi Gane (1st).
TAEA is proud to announce the selection of five new leadership scholars for the 2024-2025 Leadership Cohort. Our very own GHS Visual Arts teacher Mrs. Robin Perkins is one of the five! The TAEA Leadership Scholar Cohort Program is designed to work in tandem with the TAEA Leadership Institute to provide the membership of the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) with innovative, relevant, structured and supported professional growth focused on leadership skill sets to advance art education. The Leadership Scholars were selected from a large pool of applicants and will learn in depth about leadership in art education, service and structure of the Association and how they can grow professionally. The TAEA Leadership Institute is part of the Association's Strategic Plan for its members and future growth and impact.
Only the top 5.5 percent of districts in the state, including GISD, earned the honor this year.
The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) announced the 94 winners of the 2024 District of Distinction Award. Among the list of honorees is Gainesville ISD. The districts received the honor for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and build social emotional learning that connect learners to their community and beyond.
TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the fifth year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced from data.
For the 2024 award, over 1,200 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted documentation they met from the 14-point rubric over the 2023-2024 school year. Only 94 districts met the high standard and will receive the outstanding honor indicating they are in the top 5.5 percent in art education of districts in the state.
