School-based telemedicine can treat certain medical problems at school. The school nurse uses the  tablet and software we provide to start an appointment for your child with one of our available providers. Within a few minutes, we can see and treat your child.

Parents are welcome to be a part of the virtual visit by logging into the call via video or phone.

Some school-based virtual visits may require a follow-up appointment with your child’s doctor, which is the parent or guardian’s responsibility. School-based telemedicine allows your child to get the treatment they need as soon as possible and get back in the classroom.

NTMC Health believes that every child deserves access to excellent, affordable health care. If you have commercial insurance or Medicaid, NTMC Health will verify your insurance coverage. With Medicaid, your visit will be completely covered. With commercial insurance, you may only be responsible for your office visit copay. If you do not have insurance, the cost will be $50 for a telemedicine visit. Additional services such as lab services may have an additional cost.

Our providers also write prescriptions for generic medications that cost less – making your child’s care more accessible. Medicaid and private health insurance providers cover any necessary prescriptions.

Telemedicine uses video technology to connect your child at school to a doctor or nurse practitioner at NTMC Health. The NTMC Health provider will complete an assessment of the student to include input from the school nurse and participating parent/legal guardian during the visit. The school nurse will assist the provider during the evaluation through the use of special equipment as needed.
Upon completion of the evaluation, the provider will give instructions for follow-up care and submit a prescription to the pharmacy of choice if needed. A record of the student’s visit will be kept in NTMC Health’s medical records for future reference and a copy is sent to the primary care physician on record. A return to school note is sent to the school if needed. The parent/guardian will have access to all treatment information through the NTMC Health patient portal.

Yes, a new form must be submitted at the beginning of each school year.

If you have commercial insurance or Medicaid, NTMC Health will collect and verify your coverage. With Medicaid, your visit will be completely covered. No insurance? No problem. We have a self-pay fee of $50 that will cover the cost of the telemedicine visit. Additional services such as lab services may have an additional cost. If your child is enrolled and gets sick at school:
The school nurse will determine if a pediatric provider is needed to diagnose the child based on Telemedicine guidelines. The parent will be contacted before scheduling the appointment and has the option to join online or by phone. We also offer interpretation services as needed. The school nurse will connect your child with an NTMC Health provider using video technology and conduct an exam. If necessary, the pediatric provider will call in a prescription to your chosen pharmacy. Parents can access a record of the child’s appointment through our patient portal.

What if the school nurse’s office cannot get a hold of me to authorize an appointment?
The school nurse cannot schedule the appointment until the parent/guardian has provided both written and verbal consent.
