At Gainesville ISD, the safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority. That is why GISD continues to invest in new technology and security measures that enhance safety across the district, including the new CENTEGIX CrisisAlert Safety Platform through FiveStones Safety.

How does it work?

The CrisisAlert badges serve as a silent panic alarm system. Teachers and staff can now call for help with the push of a button on the badge they wear daily.

When an alert is activated by pushing the button on the badge, administrators, nurses, and Gainesville ISD police can see who pushed the button and the location in order to send immediate help to protect our students and staff.

There are two types of alerts staff can initiate.

• Staff Alert: This is an individual call for help that might include medical emergencies, disruptive behavior, or the immediate need for administrators or emergency personnel.
• Campus-wide Alert: Any staff member who perceives an imminent threat to life safety can initiate a campus-wide Lockdown. Through this new safety feature, our campuses and buildings are now equipped with redundant means of notification for the fastest response possible.

Texas Education Code (TEC) §37.0832 identifies bullying as a single significant act or a pattern of acts by one or more students directed at another student that exploits an imbalance of power and involves engaging in written or verbal expression, expression through electronic means, or physical conduct and that

• has the effect or will have the effect of physically harming a student, damaging a student's property, or placing a student in reasonable fear of harm to the student's person or of damage to the student's property;
• is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive enough that the action or threat creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for a student;
• materially and substantially disrupts the educational process or the orderly operation of a classroom or school, or infringes on the rights of the victim at school.

Bullying can occur during or after school hours. While most reported bullying happens in the school building, a significant percentage also happens in places like on the playground or the bus. It can also happen traveling to or from school, in the neighborhood, or on the internet (social media).
