Mrs. Laura Gibbs
My name is Mrs. Laura Gibbs and I am excited to introduce myself as your Chalmers Elementary 2017-2018 Third Grade teacher.
I am a wife to my wonderful husband, Tony, and a proud mom to a 3 1/2 year old girl named Emily Ann. I believe in your child. I look forward to the possibilities, to many moments of laughter, and to learning from one another. You guide your children throughout their lives and you surround them with love.

Classroom Rules and Consequences
1. Listen carefully.
2. Follow directions the first time given.
3. Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working.
4. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
5. Respect school and personal property.
6. Work and play safely.
I use a clip color system in the classroom. All students begin and remain on “green” unless a rule is broken. If a rule is broken students must move their clip to the next color. The color consequences include:
· Green- Doing great all day!
· Yellow- A warning for not making good choices throughout the day.
(Earn way back to green with exceptional behavior.)
· Orange- Several warnings throughout the day, with no effort by the child to correct the behavior. Loss of 5 minutes of recess.
· Red- Office referral and/or contact parents.
Your child will color or circle his/her behavior on his/her(s) assignment sheet each night. The assignment sheet needs to be signed and returned to school every day in the “Take Home Folder”. Every child has his/her own unique needs, so my intention with consequences is to guide each child in a way that is corrective, yet yields personal sensitivity and understanding.
I will send correspondence using your child’s homework folder. I may include handouts sent from the office or other sources. The office will send most handouts on Wednesday, however, please check homework folders daily.
Your Child’s Teachers
In third grade, your child has two teachers and your child will switch classes throughout the day. The classes are divided as follows:
Mrs. Gibbs – Homeroom teacher
Teaches: ELAR – Reading, Language Arts, Writing
Ms. Cox – Partner teacher
Teaches: Math, Science, Social Studies
Your child will receive grades from both teachers in the subjects indicated. Ms. Cox and I work together to establish a consistent classroom environment.
Homework – Take Home Folder
Your child will receive Reading homework from Mrs. Gibbs. Please ask your child about his/her homework every day. Each child will have homework assignments written on their assignment sheets.
Scholastic Book Club
Orders begin in September and conclude in April where great books (at discounted prices) can be purchased from Scholastic.
If ordering, please send cash (only), in an envelope, labeled with your child’s name, and Mrs. Gibbs' name.
Thank-you parents for all the positive and warm joy that you and your child have and will continue to bring to our classroom. Thank-you for purchasing all the supplies for your child and do know the supplies will be put to good use.
I look forward to a great year with you and your child.
