I grew up in the Texas Panhandle and moved to Gainesville in 2014 with my husband and two younger children. My son, Nathaniel, graduated Gainesville High in 2016 and is attending college. My daughter, Katrina, is a Senior this year. I have been blessed with a total of 5 children and 10 grandchildren, who live in Texas and Missouri. Since 2003, I have taught all grade levels including college in Business. I taught Secondary ESL for a couple years and Special Education the last three years after completing my master's degree.. I love Gainesville and look forward each year to teaching the students at the Junior High.
This last year was the most rewarding of all as I taught in the Life Skills classroom. The students worked very hard in academics. We made several different food items, including a luncheon for the parents. We planned, prepared, and planted a garden, then tended to it monitoring the growth. We harvest green bean, spimach, and zucchini. We worked on house cleaning skills and wash/folded laundry weekly as well.
We joined the high school for a couple of field trips that were wonderful experiences. The Park Rangers sponsored a fishing day and cookout. The Rangers received additional donations and set each student up wth a new fishing pole and tackel. We also visited the Police Station and Fire Department. The students took a tour of both getting to check out the vehicles and even operated a firehose. We ended the outing watching videos and eating pizza at the station.
I'm excited about our jouney this next year as we grow together and encounter new experience.
