Edison Faculty and Parents,

As you know, there was recently a report of mold in a classroom at Edison Elementary. Upon receiving this information, Gainesville ISD immediately engaged Farmer Environmental Group to conduct an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessment of the reported classroom, along with five additional classrooms in the building.

The IAQ assessment confirmed the presence of mold in those rooms, resulting in the temporary closure of the campus beginning August 6. Comprehensive environmental testing has since been completed throughout the remainder of the building.

As of today, August 11, the initial five classrooms have completed remediation and successfully passed follow-up air quality testing. Testing of the remaining 39 classrooms has also been completed, and the district is currently awaiting those results.

To allow Edison staff adequate time to prepare classrooms and ensure a safe learning environment for students, GISD is moving the start date for all Edison Elementary students to Tuesday, August 18. 

Meet the Teacher Night is scheduled for Monday, August 17, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Please note that these dates are subject to change based on the results of the remaining classroom assessments.

As previously communicated, the district expects to receive the remaining test results by the end of the day today. Once those results are reviewed, GISD will begin any necessary remediation in the remaining classrooms and will communicate an updated student start date and Meet the Teacher schedule if adjustments are needed.
