Gainesville ISD is proud to announce Mrs. Kali Wood as the new principal of Gainesville Junior High School.

An experienced educational leader, Wood has served students, families, and schools throughout Denton County since 2006. With nearly 20 years in public education, she brings a strong commitment to student success, relationship-building, and fostering learning environments where all students can thrive.

"As I learned more about Gainesville ISD, I was impressed by the pride people have in their schools and the deep commitment to students and families," Wood said. "It became clear that this is a district where people work together, celebrate success, and genuinely care about one another. I knew this was a community where I could continue my passion for serving students, supporting educators, and building meaningful partnerships. I am excited to become a part of the Gainesville Leopard family."

Most recently, Wood served as assistant principal at Linda Tutt High School in Sanger. She began her career in special education, working extensively with students who have intellectual, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. Those experiences shaped her leadership philosophy, which emphasizes equity, individualized support, high expectations, and the belief that every student can succeed when given the right resources and opportunities.

Wood earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Texas A&M University and later received a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Her background in both communications and educational leadership has provided a strong foundation for effective collaboration, relationship-building, and campus leadership.

Throughout her career, Wood has received extensive training in mental health awareness, trauma-informed practices, and student support systems. She has developed expertise in addressing students' diverse needs while promoting campus safety, strengthening partnerships with families and community organizations, and cultivating positive school cultures.

A strong advocate for collaboration, Wood believes the greatest student success comes when schools, families, and communities work together. She is eager to honor the proud traditions of Gainesville Junior High while creating new opportunities for growth, achievement, and meaningful learning experiences.

Outside of school, Wood and her husband, Thomas, have been married for more than 30 years. Together they have two adult children: their son, Jake, and his wife, Ashley, and their daughter, Grace , and enjoy spending time with family. In her free time, she loves reading and cheering on the Dallas Stars and Texas A&M Aggies.

"I am truly honored and excited to be named the next principal of Gainesville Junior High," Wood said. "GJHS has a proud history of developing learners and leaders, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation of success already in place. Together with our dedicated staff, supportive families, engaged community, and outstanding students, we will continue creating opportunities for growth, achievement, and belonging. I cannot wait to meet the Leopard family and begin the important work of serving every student, every day."

Wood looks forward to partnering with students, families, staff, and community members as she begins her new role. She is honored to join a school community dedicated to excellence and is committed to ensuring every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
