Gainesville ISD is excited to announce that Dr. Christina Dearman has joined GISD as the new Coordinator of Advanced Academics. She began her role with the district on February 3.
As the Advanced Academics Coordinator, Dr. Dearman will oversee the Gifted & Talented program, AVID, UIL Academics, Spelling Bees, and Honors/AP/Advanced courses.
Dr. Dearman holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction: Gifted and Talented Education, a Master of Education in Special Education: Gifted and Talented, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Art History.
Dr. Dearman comes to us with extensive experience in a variety of areas in education and leadership. She is already familiar with our GISD students, as she served as the UNT TRIO Talent Search college prep advisor. She has many years of experience as an elementary gifted education teacher and served as a middle school gifted and talented specialist at Denton ISD for 13 years. In addition to her K12 teaching experience, Dearman also served in a variety of roles in higher education. At UNT, she spent time as a coordinator in the Office of Gifted Education, Director of Curriculum & Instruction for Texas Governor’s School, and Clinical Assistant Professor/Director of Pathways for Teachers, in addition to being an adjunct instructor at TWU and UNT.
In addition, Dearman is a published author and helped secure various grants and monetary awards for her programs. She has also served in leadership roles in the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented.
We look forward to her contributions and leadership as we continue to advance our mission of educational excellence.
