Gainesville ISD is excited to announce that Dr. Jon Hill has joined GISD as the new Director of Finance. He will join the district full time in the middle of August.
As the Director of Finance, Dr. Hill will be responsible for overseeing the district’s financial operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and supporting our continued commitment to providing high-quality education to our students. He will work closely with the Board of Trustees, district and campus administration, and other stakeholders to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the district’s goals.
Dr. Hill holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University, a Master of Education in Administration as well as a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from Sam Houston State University.
Dr. Hill comes to us with extensive experience in a variety of areas in education and leadership. He has 22 years of experience in education, which includes two years as the Superintendent of Schools in Dodd City ISD and 9 years as a Secondary campus administrator. Most recently, Dr. Hill served as the Assistant Director of Business/Finance & Operations for ESC Region 10. In this position, Dr. Hill helped build capacity in others by leading the development and training of school district business finance managers and superintendents. He worked to develop their finance templates and created classes to meet the needs of all things related to school finance and operations. He worked diligently to create the ESC Region 10 Finance and Personnel Training and Development Academy to create a pipeline for those wanting to pursue a position within school finance.
Prior to joining ESC Region 10, he was the Director of Technology Services & Online Learning at Sherman ISD. He was brought in to create, develop, and implement an online virtual school in response to COVID-19 which ultimately served 60 teachers and the 3,800 students who were enrolled in the program.
“Dr. Hill brings a wealth of experience from his diverse roles in the K-12 arena and as a CFO trainer in Region 10,” Dr. DesMontes Stewart said. “We are thrilled to welcome him and eagerly anticipate the innovative ideas and practices he will contribute to our team.”
Dr. Hill has also served as an adjunct professor for the Ed.D. Program at Texas A&M Commerce and as an Instructional Coach for the M.Ed. Program at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. In addition to his career in education, Hill served in the US Marines from 1994 - 1997.
