Gainesville ISD Child Nutrition

  • 03/27/2020 update: Texas Department of Agriculture has instructed school districts serving weekend meals to stop. Next weeks service (03/30/2020 to 04/03/2020) will also include snacks. 

    Gainesville ISD will provide free grab-and-go meals for children during the district closure, Monday-Friday only, beginning March 23rd. Any Child 18 and under has the option to receive 3 meals daily (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack) per visit. No student ID required. Children do not have to be students at the campus to receive free meals or enrolled in GISD schools. Meals will be served in a drive-thru fashion. Families will not be allowed to congregate or come inside the buildings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

    No Child Present Meal Pickup Flexibility

    Parents, please be prepared to present one of the following (with no identification Child Nutrition Staff will have to look up each child and document):

    ·         Official letter/email from school listing children enrolled

    ·         Individual student report card

    ·         Attendance record from parent portal of school website

    ·         Birth certificate for children

    ·         Student ID cards

    Parents may not receive meals for other children.”

    Expiration Dates:

    •  Sandwiches should be consumed within 3 days of delivery.

    • All other items should be refrigerated and served within 7 days or discarded.

     Meal Patterns:

    •  All breakfast meals include one entrée, one fruit or juice, and a milk.

    • All lunch and dinner meals include one entrée, one fruit, one vegetable and a milk.

     Heating Instructions:

     Corndogs, Chicken Patties, Popcorn Chicken, Crispitos, Chicken Nuggets, Pizza, and Other Entrée items that require heating (serving size: 1 entrée)

    • Preheat oven or toaster oven to 400 F.

    • Remove entrée from packaging.

    • Line cookie sheet with foil or spray with nonstick spray.

    • Place entree on cookie sheet.

    • Bake until internal temperature reaches 160 F, or approximately 5-10 minutes.

     We will continue this service until school resumes or until the last scheduled school day (May 28th, 2020)

    Charge Policy

    Parents are strongly encouraged to monitor their child's meal account for negative balances using or by downloading the MySchoolBucks app to your device. Students will have a credit limit of 3 breakfast meals plus 3 lunch meals. An alternate meal will be provided daily once a student exceeds the credit limit of 3 breakfast meals plus 3 lunch meals. When a student's meal account is negative, the district will notify the parent. No charging is allowed for a la carte items, such as chips, cookies, etc. No charging is allowed during the last 2 weeks of school.

    Nutrition Policy

    The department follows Food Base Menu Planning. All meals must meet the Recommended Daily Allowance established by the USDA and the Texas Department of Agriculture. We research and evaluate every recipe in our menu to ensure they meet nutrition requirements measured by the following categories: Saturated Fat, Total Fat, Calories and Sodium. For further details on the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy please refer to the full policy at
