Why educators are choosing Gainesville ISD
Gainesville is a great place to teach and live. Here are reasons why educators are choosing to teach here.
Reason #1: Amazing community of educators
In a recent survey, GISD educators said that the number one reason they remain here is because of relationship with colleagues. In GISD, you’re not a number! You’re known and supported in making a difference in the lives’ of students.
“The teachers and facilitators of Gainesville ISD are dedicated to this district, community, and its students. The staff that have stayed here through all of the ups and downs and are still supporters!”
“I have never worked anywhere before with such a genuine, supportive, helpful, and encouraging team.”
“The biggest bright spot for me is our campus culture. We value each other's opinions and want our school to become even better.”
Reason #2: We need you more!
While there are other districts trying to recruit you, our students need you more! Our educators stay because they are seeing how they are able to change the trajectory of students’ lives.
While we’re making great gains in recent years, we have more to go in ensuring every child has what they need to be prepared for career and life—and we need you!
“At my campus, I get to see most parents each day at drop off and dismissal. We also complete home visits and numerous activities that are geared toward family involvement. Although these are hallmarks of our program, we continually hear parents say that this is important to them.”~ Head Start teacher
"My biggest bright spot is seeing students succeed when they thought they couldn’t!”
“My biggest bright spot is watching the confidence build in young adults as they find their path that they choose to pursue in life.”
Reason #3: Opportunities for professional growth and teacher leadership
GISD educators have said that the second reason they remain is because of professional development opportunities.
Through a variety of recent levers for change through Empowering Educators to Excel and Capturing Kids’ Hearts in every one of our schools, our educators are gaining the support and professional growth they need to make a difference in students’ lives. Here are a few examples:
- In each school, there is an instructional leadership team (ILT) made of the principal, assistant principal, lead teachers and other educators who work together weekly to move on their most important priorities.
- Through the Supporting Teacher Effectiveness Project (STEP), a PLC model, teachers are empowered to identify bright spots—what’s working—and find ways to replicate them across their schools.
- Through instructional coaching from your principal, instructional coaches or your peers, receive meaningful and timely feedback to help you grow and make change.
“GISD has provided me with an abundance of training, feedback, and leadership opportunities that has contributed to my overall growth as an educator.”
“I have been blessed to have been able to take part in so many opportunities such as STEP, ILT, and Project Lead the Way.”
Reason #4: Supportive leadership
In GISD, we have principals and assistant principals who are dedicated to making sure you have what you need to be successful as a teacher. All our leaders have a growth-mindset and passion for doing what’s right for our students, including supporting you.
“The support that my principal and assistant principal gave us teachers was phenomenal! I've never felt more supported by admin. The dedication they have for the students and the staff is incredible."
“My biggest bright spot is watching the CTE program grow since I've been here. The support of GISD administration and school board has been instrumental in our program growth.”
Reason #5: Location, location location
The city of Gainesville—known as “Totally Texas, Totally American”—is a great place to live and raise a family. The city is experiencing tremendous growth and opportunity.
- Several businesses coming into town in the last couple of years providing new employment for our residents.
- Each April, the city welcomes the Nation's Medal of Honor Recipients as part of the Medal of Honor Host City Program.
- A new Farmers’ Market is coming in 2019.
- With our very own zoo and many other family activities, there’s always something for families to do.
