School Boards: Planting Seeds for Success
January is School Board Recognition Month, and Gainesville ISD will join the Texas Association of School Boards and other districts across the state to honor the countless contributions of these locally elected advocates for Texas schoolchildren and public schools.
Board members serving Gainesville ISD are:
Corey Hardin, President; board member since 2013
Mike Rosenberg, Vice President; board member since 2011
Phil Neelley, Secretary; board member since 2016
Will Presson; board member since 2008
Marvin Royal; board member since 2017
Nathan Dempsey; board member since 2018
Brad Cox; board member since 2018
The next Board election will take place on May 4, 2019, with Place 6 (Corey Harding) and Place 7 (Phil Neelley) up for election. The first day to file an application for a place on the ballot is January 16, 2019.
Candidate packets may be picked up beginning January 9th at the GISD Admin Building on weekdays 8:00am - 4:30pm.
Deadline to file for a place on the ballot is 5pm February 15, 2019.
*Candidate must be a resident of the state for one year and living in GISD six months prior to filing deadline.
*Candidate must be a registered voter at the time of filing deadline.
School board members in Texas are required to participate in three types of continuing education.
- An orientation to local district policy and to the laws related to public education in Texas.
- An annual team-building activity with the rest of the board and the superintendent.
- A specified number of hours each year in areas of special needs.
