District Spelling Bee Champion

On January 31, GISD students in 2nd-8th grade participated in the 8th annual GISD District Spelling Bee. All 15 of these students first competed at their individual campus spelling bees, which were part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee contest. The highest performing students from each grade level/campus were invited to compete at the District Bee. Although the District Bee does not determine advancement in the Scripps Bee, it gives GISD an opportunity to recognize the top spellers at each campus and practice for the next level of the Scripps Bee. The Bee Champion, Amira Khan, 6th grade, successfully completed 15 rounds and won by correctly spelling the word “jacquerie”. Second place is Uriel Tellez, 7th grade, and finishing in third place is Avery Crutsinger, 6th grade.

The following students participated in the GISD District Bee:

Chalmers Elementary
2nd grade: Maivry Montgomery, Keller Crutsinger, Peyton McFarlin
3rd grade: Tristan Hambley, Antonio Rangel, Jarek Marin, Vanessa Krumrine
