OBrien Transitions to Lee as Assistant Principal

GISD had several administrative changes this summer, opening two Principal positions, which were able to be filled with quality internal candidates. The shift caused movement and openings in multiple Assistant Principal positions throughout the district.

One such shift was that of Christopher O’Brien, who has made the move to Robert E. Lee Intermediate.  Last year, O’Brien came to GISD as an Assistant Principal at Gainesville High School.

“I have greatly enjoyed working and developing friendships at Gainesville High School,” O’Brien said. I believe the school is in great hands and I look forward to seeing the success of our students.”

O’Brien has been in education for 10 years, previously teaching in the DFW area at Conrad High School in Dallas, Life School in Oak Cliff, and at McKinney High School.  His teaching career was filled with all variations of Science as well as AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). During his teaching tenure, O’Brien served on numerous leadership committees, including but not limited to AVID Site team, Instructional Leadership Teams, Operational Leadership Teams, Design Teams, and on the School Safety Committee.

Although O’Brien’s experience has been with students in a later stage of their education, he is “excited for the opportunity to work with students during their formative years and help transition them into being successful teenagers.”

O’Brien took the position previously held by Brandon Whiten, who accepted the position of Principal at W.E. Chalmers Elementary.
