Board Approves Teacher & Staff Raises (HB3)

At the August 19 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the 2019-2020 Compensation Plan, which reflects additional funding for school districts, specifically allocated for compensation, through new legislation (HB3). The majority of this increased funding was required to go towards teachers and those with 5 or more years of experience. This opportunity also allowed the district to increase salaries across the board, rewarding our faculty and staff for their dedication to our students and our community.
GISD teachers, librarians, counselors, and nurses with 0-4 years of experience will receive a $3,000 pay increase and those with 5 or more years of experience will receive a $5,000 pay increase. This brings our starting teacher pay to $46,035.
Paraprofessionals and auxiliary employees will receive on average a 4% raise based on the midpoint pay scale of each respective job title. All bus drivers and monitors will receive a step increase.
In addition, administrative staff will receive on average a 6% pay increase from the midpoint of each respective job scale.
The minimum GISD compensation increase of 30% set forth by HB3 totaled $1,050,489 for GISD. However, this was surpassed by the GISD Board of Trustees by increasing compensation a total of $1,289,971! The new compensation plan will make us more competitive and also retain quality staff.
