WF Hirschi Football Game Cancelled

On Thursday, October 22, GISD received confirmation that a Gainesville High School football player has received a lab-confirmed positive test for the COVID-19 virus.  The confirmation of this positive test has resulted in the quarantine of the Varsity football team effective immediately.

As a result, the Varsity football game tonight against Wichita Falls Hirschi has been cancelled.  Those who purchased tickets to the game will receive a refund from the ticketing company, which could take up to 7-10 days.

The JV and Varsity games next week against Lake Worth will play as scheduled.  The Hirschi game will be rescheduled if deemed necessary for District seeding.

As a reminder, the CDC defines significant exposure as being unmasked and within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes to someone who has been confirmed positive. An individual is considered contagious 48 hours prior to showing symptoms.

UIL regulations allow for athletes to be unmasked while on the field of play.  Our athletes at all levels will continue to follow the mask protocol as well as social distancing while on the bench, on the bus, in the stands, and any other time while not on the field of play.  In addition, we will continue to use hand sanitizer regularly.

GISD will continue to follow all safety guidelines and recommendations to ensure a safe environment for our students, staff, and community.
