GISD collects 980 lbs of food for VISTO!

Doing MOORE for our community!

The Cooke County 4-H recently partnered with David Moore (GHS Class of 2013 and wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks) for the “Souper Bowl of Caring” food drive benefiting the VISTO backpack buddy program. The program serves school-age children in several Cooke County schools, with a majority being our GISD kids. Every Friday, volunteers provide “backpacks” with snacks and food for 700 children to get them through the weekend until free school meals can be provided again on Monday.

GISD eagerly joined this endeavor and challenged our staff and even our students to collect 2013 (David’s graduation year) individual size items for the backpack. Together, our staff and students collected 5,301 items which totaled 980 pounds of the 1805 total pounds of food collected that day.

Mrs. Henry's 5th grade class at Lee brought in 500 items and won a popcorn party! Thank you to our maintenance crew who collected the items and delivered them to VISTO. We are ALL IN at GISD!
