We are happy to bring the United Sound band program back for the second year in a row. United Sound is a unique opportunity which began at GHS last year, but has been at other schools nationwide for years. The program is a working partnership between the GHS Jazz band and Mr. Firth's life skills students. Throughout the year, the band students mentor the life skills students all the way from listening to the different sounds each instrument makes, to picking out their instrument of choice, all the way to learning how to play a song with their fellow United Sound band members.
Last year, four budding musicians entered the program, ending the year with a concert performance with the jazz band. This year, the four students are returning for year two and two additional students will be joining the program for their first year. The group meets every Wednesday after school, working together to help these students learn and grow in their musical abilities. What an amazing opportunity for all of these students! A special thanks to our GISD Director of Bands, Russ Rutherford, GHS Jazz Band Director, Jon Ewart, and GHS Special Education teacher, Randy Firth, for bringing this opportunity to our students.
