Gainesville Independent School District received a rating of “A” (Superior) on the 2019-2020 Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report. Superior Achievement is the state’s highest rating, demonstrating the quality of Gainesville ISD’s financial management and reporting system.
The ratings are based upon analysis of staff and student data reported for the 2018-19 school year in addition to budgetary and financial data for the 2018-19 fiscal year. The district earned 100 out of 100 points.
“GISD is very proud to once again receive a ‘superior achievement’ rating by the Texas Education Agency,” Superintendent Dr. DesMontes Stewart said. “Obtaining this level of achievement is a direct result of our business department’s focus on ensuring fiscal responsibility.” Alyce Greer has served as the GISD Director of Finance for 7 years.
GISD has maintained a superior achievement rating every year since Schools FIRST was implemented in 2002. Schools FIRST (Financial Accountability Rating System of Texas) ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with the Texas school finance system. The rating system is designed to phase in additional indicators each year, and although GISD received a perfect score, the district will continue to strive for better ways to be financially responsible.
