For the safety of our students, the track at Gainesville Junior High (Old Leeper Stadium) will be closed to the public from 6:30am to 4:30pm weekdays beginning Monday, August 22nd for Junior High activities. It will be open each evening after 4:30pm. Gates to the track will also be opened for public use at 4:30pm each Friday and will stay open through Sunday.
On Wednesday, four Gainesville High School Seniors participated in the first Leadership Gainesville class of the year, along with 13 other community members. Gabby Brasher, Mary Gerken, Jenny Liu, and Alfredo Moreno, along with the rest of the group, heard from Mayor Jim Goldsworthy, City Manager Barry Sullivan, Community Services & Public Services Directors, toured the wastewater treatment plant, public safety center, and the Frank Buck Zoo.
Due to the demand for continuation of the adult literacy program at GISD and desire to keep the service local, Edison Principal Pablo De Santiago reached out to North Central Texas College Gainesville campus to continue the program for Fall 2016. NCTC accepted the challenge to offer these classes for free to Cooke county residents and have opened up two class sessions for this fall semester.
GISD is able to report that each campus within the district has achieved Met Standard, the highest rating schools can earn on the state’s accountability system, and the district as a whole exceeded targets in all four indexes. Congratulations to the students, teachers, and parents on a successful year at GISD!
