Dr. Des Stewart, Superintendent
Welcome back LEOPARD NATION!!!!! I can’t begin to explain the excitement that is in the air as we prepare for the 2019 – 2020 school year. As I begin my second year as the Superintendent of Schools, I look forward to continuing to build upon the positive momentum that we, as a collective team, experienced during this past year. We will continue to hold high our motto of “Every Leopard, Every Day” as we continue the work of providing ALL of our learners with a first-class educational experience.
The mission of the Gainesville Independent School District is to provide our students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for immediate and future success, PK-12, through a cooperative effort of school, home and community. Parents, guardians and loved ones TOGETHER, we can build an educational environment that will equip our future leaders with the prerequisite skills that they will need to be contributing members of society. Whether they are joining the Armed Forces, pursuing a post-secondary education, attending vocational school or entering the work force we want each of our students to be ready and prepared to chase their career ambitions.
During the 2018 – 2019 school year I conducted my “Look, Learn and Listen” tour and I was able to gain valuable input from alumni, our business community, local civic organizations, members of the clergy, campus faculty, students as well as my Parent Advisory Committee. I will continue these conversations into the 2019 – 2020 school year and I look forward to continuing to hear from our Leopard community. Come one come all as we continue the work of shaping the future of Gainesville Independent School District.
The late American poet Maya Angelou said, “If you’re always trying to ne normal you will never know how amazing, you could be”. Our 3100+ students come to school each and every day, ready to learn and to enjoy a conducive educational learning experience. They deserve the BEST and that is what we plan to deliver. Our dedicated faculty, staff and administrators have been hard at work planning and preparing for an awesome school year. We will continue to work towards providing expanded educational and career opportunities, increasing our parental involvement and providing a top notch educational experience for ALL. Please join me in making the 2019 – 2020 school year a huge success. #GISDStrong
