Our goal is to provide all students, staff and visitors with a clean, safe and comfortable environment, conducive to the educational process. We will succeed in achieving this goal through the sound management of resources, efficient work practices, open communications and the dedication of our employees Gainesville I.S.D. contains nine campuses. Working under the guidance of the Director of Operations, the men and women of the Facilities Department strive to provide the best possible environment for learning, teaching, and recreation. We want to know if the services we provide meet the needs of our "customers", the students, faculty and staff of Gainesville I.S.D.. This guide describes what services we offer and tells you how to communicate with us when our assistance is needed. The Facilities staff is dedicated to keeping the physical structures and grounds of the district clean, functional and safe within financial and regulatory constraints. The Facilities Services Department exists to serve the students, faculty staff and tax payers of Gainesville Independent School District.
Read Me First
As one would expect in a school system the size of Gainesville I.S.D., the upkeep of equipment, buildings, and grounds is a monumental task. More than 5,000requests for maintenance, repairs, and renovations are received by Facilities Maintenance and Operations each year. Because we are a large district spread out over nine campuses, it is important that we establish a centralized reporting procedure not only for repairs which need emergency attention, but for interior renovations and not-so-urgent service request. The requests are handled according to urgency.
Services provided in emergencies extends to problems which effect life, health, safety, will cause severe damage to a building or effect the schools ability to perform its educational mission.

Facilities Maintenance strives to keep all request and inquires free of red tape. While emergencies and urgent requests may be phoned in, we ask that all maintenance request be sent in via online work order system.
Some of the things that we do not do under normal circumstances include: Relocate projector screens Build furniture or bookcases Plant additional flowers trees or shrubs Painting: The district budgets for a limited amount of painting each year. Campus priorities are set by the principals and when the budget for painting is expended we stop until the next budget year. Re-lamping: Lights that can be reached from a six foot ladder are changed by the building custodian. Request for Repairs ProcedureEach site has a designated person that handles communications with Facilities Maintenance. This person is the Facilities Coordinator for the site. This is usually the Vice Principal. The Facilities Coordinator calls the Operations Department, approves all online requests for elective maintenance and are kept appraised of work priority. They are the contact when utility services must be interrupted, and will be kept advised of any problems that may arise.Pest Control
Facilities Maintenance provides exterminator service to all buildings at no cost to the site. Buildings are treated for roaches, rodents, and other pest on a regular basis. If you have a need for this service beyond our normal schedule. You should call the Maintenance and Operation office. Do not bring pesticides of any kind onto GISD property. This is illegal and can result in fines of up to $5,000/day/occurrence. If found on school property, they will be confiscated and disposed of without the consent of the purchaser. Any person bringing pesticides of any form onto GISD property will face potential disciplinary action. We cannot treat for pests that are not currently infesting the building. We may treat only specific, targeted pests, in specific areas, meaning that we cannot legally just “spray the building for bugs.” The presence of Bees, and/or Wasps, is considered an emergency, since reaction to their stings can be quite severe. Call the Maintenance Department immediately, identify the exact location of the nest and someone will be dispatched to eliminate them. We cannot come for one individual bee or wasp, but will respond promptly when a nest is reported. Fire Ants are not considered an “emergency” by the Texas Structural Pest Control Board. When they are problematic, any scented aerosol (hair spray, all-purpose cleaner, et cetera) may be lightly sprayed on their trail to disrupt it. Since ants follow scent trails to get where they are going, they will be lost and will normally return to their nests. Alternatively, the ants can be removed with a vacuum cleaner. This should take care of them until our licensed pest control technician comes to kill the mound. Store all food in airtight containers to discourage foraging ants, roaches, rodents, etc., from infesting the area. Clean all crumbs and spilled food immediately -- do not leave it out overnight. Do not leave open soft drink containers sitting around either, as they also attract ants and roaches. Keep exterior hallway doors closed to prevent insects and rodents from entering the building from outdoors. This also saves on energy and increases the security of the building against human intruders. Be as specific as possible about the location of pests when writing work requests or calling in complaints. Example: Ants sighted in room 12 between the window and teacher’s cabinet.Preventative Maintenance A preventative maintenance is a program in which wear, tear and change are anticipated, and continuous corrective actions are taken to ensure peak efficiency and minimize deterioration. It involves a planned and controlled program of systematic inspection, adjustment, lubrication, replacement of components and performance testing and analysis. In Facilities Maintenance our goal is a comprehensive, system-wide program to identify and carryout long term maintenance and repair of the districts buildings. Supervisors will conduct periodic inspections to evaluate building condition and identify necessary corrective work.
